Not a cake-lover? No worries! This bride and groom love doughnuts from Ike and Jane in Athens, GA and envisioned their wedding cake made of doughnuts. Their Doughnut Tower was a huge hit! And it looks as good as it tastes. Ike and Jane features flavors from Devils Food to Vanilla topped with Golden Graham cereal to the “Elvis Doughnut” including Peanut Butter, Bananas, and Bacon Pieces. A Doughnut Tower is a great way to show off your individual tastes!

As any bride-to-be (or any wedding guest, frankly) knows, location is key. The view from the reception’s dance floor or the dining room’s antique, rustic ceiling beams can truly make (or break) the wedding experience. So when Amelia Island-native Ashley and her fiancé John decided to get married in May 2008, she knew exactly what she wanted: a riverside wedding that reflected the couple’s individual histories on the island.

With the help of her mother and Lee, Ashley decided she would wow her nearly 600 guests with a reception at the Amelia River Warehouse and Wharf. Known by most of the island’s inhabitants as the not-so-elegantly-named “pogy plant,” the facility was an abandoned warehouse with rusted equipment and overgrown weeds strewn about. An interesting choice to say the least!

Because “pogy plant” seems to imply a mix of a backcountry boathouse and an industrial complex, the simple name change began what was to become a massive image overhaul on the facility. Amelia Island and its residents had no idea what was to be unveiled!

Now while these pictures do not exactly scream “beautiful wedding reception,” Ashley saw the potential.

With equipment and staff arriving a week prior to the big day, the transformation began with sheer draping from the warehouse ceiling and large floral arrangements brought in from large refrigerated trucks.

Outside, in front of a breathtaking sunset view of the Amelia River, an outdoor South Beach tent was constructed, sparkling crystal lanterns were hung on cedar trees and driftwood was collected to adorn the buffet tables.
