Each member of the Epting Events team is crucial to our planning process and unique in their own way. In fact, would you believe that one of our in-house accountants is skilled in the art of karate?! Meet Cat Warner, an avid outdoorswoman and a beloved member of our team at Epting Events. This inspiring woman even competed in The Battle of Chattanooga, where she sparred with other trained karate experts. Additionally, in 2010 Cat completed the Eric Shanteau Swim For Your Life race, an open swim in Lake Lanier for a total distance of about one mile! Cat also recently purchased her first canoe and enjoys hiking in her spare time.

Cat 1

Cat is “truly a product of the Southeast,” spending portions of her life in several different states, including South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. Cat fell in love with the new emerging field of software and computers while working in Tennessee during the 80’s. For Software sales and support perfectly married her love of numbers, passion for solving problems and desire to learn different businesses. She also enjoyed the fact that she was able to meet new people almost daily.

After Tennessee, Cat made her way to Alabama alongside her husband, Tom, and her daughter. During her time there, Cat served as the Accounting Department Coordinator for a large privately-held manufacturing firm. Her first order of business? Standardizing accounting software at more than 20 different corporations! Needless to say, Cat is one smart cookie. “[It] sounds really boring to most, but I loved it,” she explains.

In 2008, Cat became a resident of The Classic City. And a year later, she walked through the front doors of Epting Events and never looked back– we recently celebrated her fifth anniversary!

Cat 2

Triple chocolate chip cookies, the pool on a warm summer day, hot coffee and, of course, Epting Events’ famous cheese biscuits are among some of Cat’s favorite things. On the other hand, drivers who forget to use turn signals along with the final days of summer typically send Cat into a bit of a tizzy. All in all, we are so proud to have such an accomplished and adventurous woman as a member of our team and are so excited that you were each given a chance to meet her!

On August 1, Epting Events, along with Southern Living and The Southern Coterie Network, will be presenting The Southern C Summit, a one-day networking event and conference. The inaugural Southern C Summit was held on Jekyll Island in early May. This time around, they’re bringing the show to Athens, Georgia – a town known for its southern charm and personality.

This event, hosted at the Georgia Museum of Art and the Georgia Theatre, will unite the best of southern brands, bloggers, businesses, as well as an assortment of creative minds to collaborate, create, and innovate. The daytime events will consist of several panels, including Ashley Epting’s presentation titled “Real to Reel: Food, Film, and TV.” This panel blends together two of Ashley’s passions – throwing parties and the entertainment industry. For a sneak peek into what Ashley’s panel will discuss, check out the teaser trailer for “Black Tie and BBQ.” In addition to Ashley’s presentation, guest panelists include the creative forces of the Wier/Stewart ad agency in Augusta, The Broke Socialite’s Shameeka Ayers, The Love List’s Jess Graves, and Hanna Seabrook, the creative director of Southern Proper.

This event offers treats for the mind and for the stomach. A networking luncheon at the Georgia Museum of Art and an evening event, “Cocktails and Conversations,” at the Georgia Theatre are being coordinated and provided by the staff and kitchen at Epting Events. Additional lunch and dinner items are being brought in by local southern vendors, as well as Athens restaurants such as Pauley’s, The Branded Butcher, Pauley’s and The National. Bartenders will be on hand to create specialty cocktails with Cathead Vodka and Charred Oak Spirits’ bourbon. The event will conclude with a panel led by Southern Living’s Hunter Lewis, with Chefs Whitney Otawka and Peter Dale, and Greg Best, a partner and mixologist at Atlanta’s Holeman & Finch.

On behalf of Epting Events and the entire catering and event planning community, we would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the Roman family on the loss of Mike Roman. He passed away on the morning of June 24.

Heavily involved and passionate about NACE, the National Association for Catering and Events, Mike once served as director at large. While in that position, he helped to transition NACE from an organization to a true community. This strong sense of community continues on today and we will forever be grateful for his contribution. Mike was a man who never took himself too seriously and loved to throw parties. His love of throwing parties and showing people a good time was evident in everything he involved himself with.

Many of us in the industry will remember Mike Roman as one of our greatest mentors. He was always a resource for catering advice, but more importantly, he was a great source of joy and laughter.

“To be nobody-but-yourself — in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else — means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.” – e.e. cummings

Mike’s family has asked for privacy; however we encourage you to post messages to Mike’s Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/AskTheCateringGuru
or the Catersource Facebook page:

In lieu of flowers,  please send donations in Michael Roman’s name to the American Diabetes Association. Contact ADA at 1-800-342-2383 or www.diabetes.org.
