This past week, three of our interns had fun creating these hanging picture boards for the Hamilton wedding reception in Augusta. The bride, Natalie, forwarded us a few examples from magazines, and we did our best to recreate and modify these boards for the look and feel of her wedding!

What you will need:

– 10 ft. long Ivory ribbon (length of ribbon will vary on tent size)
– 9 x 9 Squares of Brown Mat Board
– 5 x 5 Pictures
– Rubber Cement
– VERY Tacky, Durable Glue
– Large Safety Pins (to connect the boards to the tent)

A few things: You will need a box cutter to cut the mat boards easily. We used the tacky glue to connect the mat boards to the ribbon, and we used the rubber cement to stick the pictures onto the boards.

Here is the final product! These picture boards add a personal touch to any event. Plus, they are quick and inexpensive to make. You can do as many or as few as needed.

Tennis balls can add the perfect touch of color to your next luncheon, ladies’ tennis club events, end-of-the-year parties and more. It’s best to use ones that aren’t brand new so the color is not so intense depending on your flower colors. You can adapt the vase arrangements with baseballs, ping pong balls and more.

Suzanne Johnson, known around here as “the Cookie Lady”, makes the cutest, greatest cookies for all occassions. Not only do they look cute, they also taste great. She found her mother’s handwritten recipe for Grandmother’s Tea Cakes and started cutting, baking, icing and eventually began her cookie company. Suzanne made 150 bride and groom cookies for us this weekend for favors.

What could make an outdoor ceremony even better? Maybe, having your dog walk down the aisle? This is becoming more and more popular with weddings outdoors, and even some inside if you can sweet talk the church. I, personally, feel outdoor is the best way to have your dog included. If you don’t want your dog to be sporting their normal Georgia Bulldogs collar and their everyday attire, and they obviously can’t carry a bouquet, buy a leather collar and have your florist attach flowers.

Wedding gifts… do you ship them to their house or bring them to the reception?

I once made the mistake of bringing my gift to the wedding reception. I bought them an electric wine bottle opener with a bottle of their favorite wine, which sounds small in theory, but was actually quite cumbersome once it was in the gift bag. So as I am trying to haul it into the reception, I slowly realized I was one of the few with presents. Everyone else had already gotten their cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres by the time I got done maneuvering my way through the crowd to the gift table.

For the newly wed couple or their families, it is just as big of a hassle to take the gifts home along with other things they brought with them. So save yourself the hassle, order it online, get it gift-wrapped, and have it shipped to their house prior to the wedding.

If you don’t feel like fighting a crowd at your favorite Mexican restaurant tonight, put on your sombrero at home and cook up this great vegetarian Cinco de Mayo meal.

Moser Salad:
Romaine and spring mix lettuce, toasted walnuts, bleu cheese crumbles, mandarin orange slices and Moser Dressing (if you haven’t bought your Moser Dressing yet from http://www.harryspigshop.com/, substitute spring dressing)

Black Bean and Corn Salad:
2 15 oz cans of whole kernel corn and black beans
2 diced avocados
lime juice
1/8 cup of diced red onion
12 oz of salsa
8 oz of grated Pepper Jack cheese
(Rinse corn and beans, and put in a medium bowl, add avocados, splash lime juice on top, add onions, salsa and cheese. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to eat.)

Stuffed Veggie Quesadilla:
Green Onions, Bell Peppers, Mushrooms, Tomatoes & Zucchini
Saute before you put them in the quesadilla for extra flavor
Put the ingredients on 1/2 of the tortilla wrap, and either grill in a skillet or on a panini maker.

Homemade Guacamole:
3 avocados, peeled and diced, then mashed
1/2 tomato diced
1/2 onion diced
1 clove of minced garlic
Dash of Lime juice
Mix together and serve with chips and salsa

Tropical Fruit Sundae:
Kiwi, Pineapple and Watermelon with Vanilla ice cream

Then, of course, have a margarita with the meal. I like the Baja Bob’s sugar-free margarita mix.
