Do you have the perfect wedding planned out in your head, but just can’t quite figure out where it’s located? Like most girls, it would be my dream to have my wedding at my family’s home; but my dad now lives in Australia and my mom’s house is on a steep hill without lots of great spaces for tents, tables and the perfect black and white checkered dance floor. So where does that leave girls like me?

Well, you’re in luck, especially in the South… there are tons of Antebellum, plantation style homes perfect for weddings; or if the farm style wedding is more your style, I have something for you too!

The Taylor Grady House at 634 Prince Ave is beautiful inside and out!

Ashford Manor in Watkinsville has overnight accomodations, a great pool and unique reception sites.

The Hill located at 1800 Crescent Lane includes use of the house, the sunken garden and the front lawn.

Shoulderbone Plantation in White Plains fits both categories of Southern home and plenty of room for an outside plantation wedding.

The Farm House Inn in Madison known as the country wedding venue.

Inn at Half Mile Farm in Highlands, NC also has guest lodging and tons of beautiful land for a wedding and reception!

These are just a few in the Athens area and a wild card in Highlands, so relax there is definitely a venue that will make you feel right at home.

Since today is the first day it has not been scorching hot, I thought an October wedding would be the perfect inspiration for today’s post. October not only means Halloween and football — especially Georgia v. Florida; it’s also one of our busiest wedding months!

Last October, Laura and Christian had a simple but elegant reception at Laura’s family home; with black and white as her main colors. The tent was lit with purples and greens creating the perfect outdoor wedding.

The reception started with passed macaroni & cheese and a pick-up table with Mrs. Carter’s cheese ring, hot baked crab dip, Vidalia onion souffle and spinach dip. The main buffet had lots of Epting Events’ favorites: shaved roast beef with Queen Elizabeth sauce, pulled pork with apple butter BBQ sauce and sweet potato biscuits, marinated chicken with peach salsa, rosti potatoes, shrimp & grits, tomato bread pudding and moser salad. (note: I apologize if you have yet to eat lunch, because it made me hungry just writing it!)

The couple had a four-tiered cake with Spanish lemon and white velvet raspberry.

Happy early one year anniversary Laura & Christian!

Last night, we attended the Wish Upon a Wedding Launch Party at the Mansion Elan club. The event was filled with eager vendors ready to offer their services to the brides and grooms of Wish Upon a Wedding.

Stressed about planning your wedding in a year or even two years, and you think that’s not even enough time? Imagine calling Epting Events on Monday and getting hitched by Tuesday at the State Botanical Gardens Day Chapel! Liddell and Lewis have a more formal wedding planned in November, but they wanted to wed ASAP! Lee Epting could not have been more thrilled to put this wedding together, like every wedding he pulled out all the stops.

Guests were served passed crab cakes and bacon wrapped dates; with a Southern brunch buffet offering flank steak roulades, country ham with Shubert rolls, tomato sandwiches with basil mayo, broccoli salad, a minted melon salad, cheese biscuits with Lee’s homemade and homegrown blueberry jelly, and my personal favorite, deviled eggs. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, we had mini pick-up desserts on silver tray tiers: strawberry shortcake, assorted trifles, chocolate mousse and fruit compotes.

One word: Yellow! We love these yellow floral arrangements. We did a wedding two weekends ago with yellow touches, like a multi-yellow checkered table cloth. These yellow floral pictures will just have to hold you over till then! Yellow is a great color palette for a wedding, and can be incorporated in some many different and unique ways.

There are tons of great ways to decorate a pool for a wedding, including some great budget friendly ways. You can have flower balls made to float around the pool, or you can have loose petals. Have your monogram made out of flowers and have it in the pool. Or you can have a floor put over the pool, and have a clear floor for your reception. There is always the possibility of trashing the dress, and jumping in the pool too… Unfortunately, we don’t have any pictures of that; although I’m sure I could find some on facebook!

Imagine… Chelsea Clinton called Epting Events to plan her wedding to Marc Mezvinsky, we would be thrilled! We would not change a thing about her Vera Wang wedding dress, and we’d definitely use the beaded crystals as inspiration for the reception. The reception would be classic with beaded chandeliers, white chivari chairs, gold mirrors and ice bars. The menu, of course, would consist of Southern favorites, and knock the socks off the Yankees!
